Default (backup) shipping rates

Backup rates are used when live carrier rates aren’t available.

Why this matters

  • Prevents failed bookings

  • Ensures quotes can still be calculated

  • Acts as a safety net when carrier APIs are unavailable

These rates are internal only and are not shown to customers.

Domestic backup rate

What it is
Your estimated average cost for domestic (within Australia) shipments.

How to set

  1. Enter an amount in AUD (for example, 9.95)

  2. Click Save Settings

When it’s used

  • Carrier API outages

  • No rates returned

  • Fallback quote calculations

International backup rate

What it is
Your estimated average cost for international shipments.

How to set

  1. Enter an amount in AUD (for example, 24.95)

  2. Click Save Settings

When it’s used

  • International carrier rate failures

  • No rates returned

  • Fallback quote calculations

Best practice
Set backup rates close to your real average shipping costs so quotes remain realistic.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use different units in different places?
Yes. The General tab sets defaults, but you can switch units in the booking modal at any time.

Can I set different hours per warehouse?
Not currently. Warehouse hours are global. Per-warehouse hours may be added in future updates.

What timezone are warehouse hours in?
Your Shopify store’s local timezone.

Can I turn off all email notifications?
Yes. Uncheck all notification options and save.

Do backup rates affect what customers see?
No. Backup rates are internal only. Live carrier rates are always preferred.
